Duisburg A40 Rheinbridge Neuenkamp
2024
The 802-metre-long Duisburg-Neuenkamp Bridge, which is Germany’s longest span cable-stayed bridge, carries the A40 over the Rhine near Duisburg. As part of the project to replace the aging structure and double its capacity, VSL Switzerland was contracted to supply and install stay cables, including Germany’s first friction dampers. So that the old bridge could be safely dismantled, the loads had to first be removed. VSL Switzerland was responsible for detensioning and removing 108 stay cables during 54 operations over six five-day periods.
