IZMIT BAY BRIDGE

2015

VSL lifted two side spans for the 2,682m long Izmit Bay Bridge, also called Osman Gazi Bridge, the world ‘s sixth-longest suspension bridge with a 1,550m-long main span, in Dilovasi Kocaeli, Turkey. The bridge was built in one of the world’s most seismically active areas, which placed high demands in terms of design and execution. Step by step, VSL lifted the 127m and 136m long spans, weighing 2,400t and 2,800t each. Temporary steel structures were installed on top of the piers to mount the strand lifting units.
