SHATIN TO CENTRAL LINK CONTRACT 1128

Contract 1128 of the Shatin to Central Link involves the construction of two twin-tube structures – the Eastern and Western Tunnels – by tunnel boring machine. VSL – Intrafor was in charge of building three shafts with diaphragm walls, including a two-cell shaft that was needed to launch the TBM for the Western Tunnel excavation. This design is particularly efficient in terms of savings in both time and space; it enhances the structural capacity of the shaft while minimising the need for struts, thus enabling to accommodate large-size TBMs.
