VSL was awarded a contract for skidding 70 caissons on site and load out operations for 105 caissons. Three manufacturing lines were used to build the caissons, and each could produce three simultaneously. Each of the lines consisted of three fabrication areas, where VSL provided the complete skidding system to move 70 caissons from one area to another at manufacturing lines 1 and 2. VSL Heavy Lifting supplied items of equipment such as skidding track lines, Teflon pads, skid shoes and hydraulic jacks, monitoring systems, pumps and push and pull units. After the first launch, VSL Heavy Lifting was able to carry out a complete cycle- skidding the empty gantry, picking up the next caisson, skidding it, transferring it into the water and moving the gantry back to pick up the next one, all in less than 12 hours. VSL managed to complete the work as exactly scheduled, when all 105 caissons were successfully moved into the water.
