TSING MA BRIDGE

1992 - 1994

VSL built the entire concrete superstructure for Tsing Ma Bridge, the second-longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its construction in 1994. The bridge, which is part of a 3km long elevated highway that connects the islands of Tsing Yi and Ma Wan in Hong Kong, has the longest span of all bridges in the world carrying rail traffic.
VSL built the two main pylons using the slipform method and the fabrication and heavy lifting of eight steel trusses that were subsequently concreted and post-tensioned. VSL also built the four sets of approach piers by the climbform method and prestressing of the anchor blocks for the suspension cables for the structure.
