Low-carbon grout
📽️ Low-carbon grout developed by VSL International 🍃
The durability of post-tensioned structures is provided by the cement grout, which protects the steel strands from corrosion. The grout fabrication is emitting about 1 tonne of C02 for 1 tonne of cement. To reduce this carbon footprint, VSL International has developed a process to fabricate low-carbon grout.🌎
Maintenance in a bridge construction project
📽️ Why consider maintenance operations from design stage ?🍃
In a bridge construction project, the carbon is mostly contained into the material. So, if we can prevent our existing structures from demolition or rebuild, and instead, properly maintain and inspect them to extend their service life, then we can achieve the lowest carbon bridge.
HVO fuel: a low-carbon alternative
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil: a reduction of nearly 98% of CO2 emissions on the HS2 project, UK 🍃
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is a bio-based liquid fuel originating from various kinds of vegetable oils such as rapeseed, sunflower, soybean and palm oil, waste oils as well as animal fats. It is seen as a greener diesel and can totally replace or be mixed with diesel. VSL used it and experienced it on the HS2 project, in the UK,...

VSL’s innovative robot for cable inspection
🎥 Cable-Stayed Structures: automating bridge inspections
By combining an automated video-capturing robot that moves along the stay cable with an artificial intelligence algorithm and machine learning that can classify defects on the cables, VSL makes the cable inspection process faster, accurate and safer.
Reducing energy consumption at VSL
VSL Spain: 320 solar panels to supply the factory with energy☀️
In Spain, where sun exposure is one of the highest in the European continent, VSL’s factory in Barcelona, has turned to photovoltaic energy to help reduce their electricity consumption and C02 emissions.
Reducing energy consumption at VSL
VSL Australia: switching to a green energy to reduce consumption 🍃
In Australia, fossil fuels, such as coal and gas, radiated about 70% of electricity production in 2021. VSL Australia have therefore begun evaluating their electricity usages internally and with their suppliers.
Low-Carbon Solution
PT Slabs: taking action towards reducing our carbon footprint 🍃
A strong commitment of VSL for 2023 is to keep taking real action towards reducing our carbon footprint and that of the structures we build or repair. Our experts make it a priority and they explore ways to build differently. The embodied CO2 impact of a building structure is a significant part of a building construction’s carbon footprint. And the...
Reducing our Carbon Footprint
📽️ VSoL®: a Low-Carbon Solution 🍃
Climate change is the defining issue of our time, and everyone will have to do their part to limit its impact. At VSL, not only are we taking action to reduce our own carbon footprint, but we also build innovative solutions to reduce the one of the structures we build or repair.
