Queensferry Crossing

The project was instigated to reduce the risk of ice accretion on the bridge’s HDPE stay-cable sheaths and that of ice being shed on vehicles. VSL developed and tested a new cable-cleaning robot which was successfully deployed on the Queensferry Crossing in summer 2022, significantly reducing the time taken to clean the 288 cables – a total length of 70 km.
