DEEP CPT FOR ADVANCED PILE DESIGN

Hongkong Electric Company were expanding Lamma power station by replacing coal-fired units with cleaner gas-fired units, the foundation contractor needed a cost effective design to deal with superficial deposits exceeding 80m depth. With the contractors specialist geotechnical consultant (Victor Li & Associates) a series of deep CPT’s were conducted to a maximum depth of 96m. Tests were carried out at 10 locations with 43 predrilling stages and 192 dissipation tests.
