DIRECTIONAL DRILLING FOR GROUND FREEZING PIPES
2012-2013
The tunnelling contractor awarded Intrafor a contract for the drilling and installation of horizontal ground freezing pipes for the construction of MTR’s Sai Ying Pun Station on the South Island Line. The 25no., 85m long drillholes were drilled with high accuracy around the perimeter of the adit to be excavated. An additional challenge was that the drilling was in soft ground conditions 18m below the water table.
