DIRECTIONAL DRILLING UNDER LIVE TRACKS FOR TAM INSTALLATION

Intrafor was contracted to undertake horizontal drilling beneath 4no. live railway lines operated by the MTR. The holes 60m in length were for the installation of tube-a-manchette (TAM) grout pipes to provide ground improvement. Intrafor was requested to complete this technically challenging project after the previous contractor had failed to drill more than 15m. Intrafor developed and executed the correct methodology to safely drill through a running sand below the water table and ensure the TAM pipes could be installed.
